Plugged In Golf Reviews the FlightScope Mevo Gen2: “A Worthy Partner”

Matt Meeker of Plugged In Golf recently spent time with the new FlightScope Mevo Gen2 and came away calling it “a worthy partner” for golfers looking for both reliable performance data and accessible simulation. After testing the device on the range and in a simulator, Meeker praised its ease of use, accuracy, and value in the under $2,000 category.

Major Upgrades Over the Original

According to Meeker, the Mevo Gen2 represents “major upgrades to the device that seemingly jumpstarted the personal launch monitor category.” Powered by FlightScope’s patented Fusion Tracking Technology – a unique combination of radar and camera – the unit measures 18 data parameters across full swing, chipping, and putting.

“FlightScope has been tracking golf balls for a quarter century,” Meeker wrote. “With that in mind, their tagline for the new Mevo Gen2 seems spot on: ‘Experience trusted performance data.’”

He also highlighted the value: “The Mevo Gen2 incorporates a lot of technology and features for its price. The absence of subscription fees is a true positive.”

Setup and Ease of Use

Unboxing the Mevo Gen2 was straightforward. “Inside the sleek white box, I found the FlightScope Mevo Gen2 unit, USB-C charger, Quickstart Guide, and aluminum stickers all packed neatly inside the carrying case,” Meeker explained.

He also found the connectivity reliable: “The connection may take a couple seconds, but I found it very reliable. The Mevo Gen2 has its own WiFi, so you can use it anywhere.”

On setup at the range, he added: “The FlightScope Mevo Gen2 has a built-in kickstand that popped out easily. I didn’t have to adjust the tilt or roll for any ground conditions at my range locations, but the FS Golf app does alert you if either needs to be modified.”

Integrated FS Golf App

Much of the review focused on the free FS Golf app, available on iOS, Android, and PC. “The FlightScope Mevo Gen2 actively collects and delivers to the FS Golf app 18 data parameters that are available for viewing immediately, after a handful of shots, or later at home,” Meeker explained.

He especially liked the FlightScope AR Tracer: “The shot tracer type video with the data overlaid is super cool. The FlightScope software also provides the ability to draw lines and circles – attractive options for instructors and social media posts.”

Other features stood out as well: “The feature I utilize the most is ‘Review Session.’ Here I can look at the data from my range sessions at my leisure – and most importantly – in the comfort of my home.”

Summing up this part of the experience, he noted: “This is another area where FlightScope excels – the integration of data and technology.”

Simulation Experience

The Mevo Gen2 includes lifetime ownership of an 8 course bundle on E6 Connect (iOS and PC), featuring world class venues such as Kiawah Island Ocean Course, Torrey Pines South Course, Kapalua Plantation Course, and Valderrama.

“There’s a reason E6 Connect is one of the most popular golf simulation platforms – amazing graphics,” Meeker said.

Even without a full simulator at home, setup was straightforward: “FlightScope has partnered with E6 Connect for many years, and the software compatibility appears seamless and reliable.”

Accuracy and Performance

When it came to performance, Meeker had no doubts about the technology. “I have inherent trust knowing that FlightScope is utilizing time proven 3D Doppler radar technology. Fusion Tracking isn’t used just in the Mevo+, but also in the top end $15,000 FlightScope X3C.”

Value and Positioning

Priced at $1,199, the Mevo Gen2 hit the right balance for him. “For golfers looking for a wide array of reliable data, video integration, plus high-end simulation, the FlightScope Mevo Gen2 is an intriguing option.”

Battery life was another plus: “It’s worth noting the Gen2 has a 6 hour battery life which is more than twice as long as the Mevo+.”

Final Verdict

In the end, Meeker was impressed not just by the product, but also by FlightScope’s Customer Care team. “The FlightScope Mevo Gen2 has a lot to offer and needs to be a consideration for anyone looking at a launch monitor in the under $2,000 category – especially if you’re thinking about setting up a simulator.”

He added: “The Mevo Gen2 worked great right out of the box, and I’ve enjoyed discovering new settings and features.”

And finally, on customer service: “I do want to give a shout out to the amazing FlightScope customer service personnel who promptly answered a couple of questions I had in chat sessions.”

Closing his review, Meeker summed it up in one line: “Whether you are gaining insight on the performance of your golf clubs or enjoying a round on a bucket list course on a simulator, the FlightScope Mevo Gen2 is a worthy partner.”
